Macchi C 200 Saetta

Description

My first model kit of an italian airplane.
Backround. Ok, I have to say´that I know few about Italian airplanes, I know more about german and allied aircraft.
But here are a few details that I certainly know:
The macchi saetta (lightning) was a new genereation plane of the italian airforce. Firts the saettas were produced with a closed cockpit, but the italian pilots liked the open ockpits more (it has been stated that an airfore pilot has to "smell" its enemy so that might be the reason). The saetta had an aircooled engine. It was quite fast as it entered service, more than 530 km/h. For the first years of the war, this speed was very good. Later, the saettas engine was too weak to compete with the other aircraft although it had some other stranghts that kept it in service during the war ended. The saetta had an extremely good maneuverability, it could turn extremely tight. In the first years of the war, saettas ruled over the meditterrainian sea. The saetta was a very small airplane, it was even shorter than an me 109.!
The c 200 was armed with 2 mg´s.
Later the saetta was replaced with the c 202 and c 205.
The model:
Its a very cheap and very small model, I bought it for just 4,99 €( this actually should hold me of to buy it becauseI had some very very bad experiences with an me 109 from revell that I bought for the same prize but in the end this model kit prooved quite different from the 109)

Detail: Detail is very important and this is sadly the only weakness in the kit: it lacks very good cockpit and landing gear detail, but therefore the engine is very detailed. The cockpit is VERY small (I dont want to be a saetta pilot, the cockpit is even smaller than that of the bf 109!) so that might be the reason for the bad cokpit detail. A pilot figure is also included , something you dont have often in revell models.
For detail it scores
**
Fitting. Its very small, includes just a few parts and those fit together perfectly, no flaws in fitting, no gaps like in that 4,99€ model kit of the me 109 I told you earlier in this review.
Everything fitted just perfect!
*****
Functions: excellent funtions! not only the propeller spins around, also the wheels are movable!
*****
decals: as always very good. thereare decals for 2 versions, one for a machine flown by the italian airforce and one flown under german pilots. the decals are clean and very detailed.
*****
extrapoints: its a very good smakll kit and i like it a lot :
*****
Fazit. All in all an excellent kit, I would rate it 5 stars out of 5 but the detail brings it down to a final score of
****
Still, I would advise you to buy it if you are a fan of wwii aircraft, cause its a well known aircraft and it doesnt take much space to display it, still the suggested colour scheme make it an eyecatcher.

I'm making one right now, the camouflage is a pain to apply  What I dislike in this set the most is that since there is no control panel for the pilot, once you assemble it with gears down you see a huge gaping hole inside the empty aircraft.
