Balaur is a species of raptor, cloned by inGen before it was discovered in 2010. Balaur is a special raptor, with 2 blade liek sickle claws on each foot, and a more heavuily built body than average raptors. Balaur is also the most agressive species of raptor ever cloned by inGen, because of this it was kept as a secret until 2010. One of the most interesting facts about balaur is, that it is nocturnal. He only hunts at night. Balaurs are feared under the keepers and only the most experienced keepers care for the blaurs. although they are only 2 metres long, they posses incredible power and speed, they can run 50 km/h fast, this isnt as fast as other raptors like velociraptors, but still enough to catch most prey items. Balaurs are animals that live most of their live solitary, but they arent agressive toward each other. 5 keepers were killed by balaurs. Both sexes have the same size and appearence making it difficult to determine the sex. Balaurs body colour is pitch black, the head is a mix of yellow and brown, and the tail feathers are black, grayish with white spots. Their eyes are totally red, exept for the pupille. Their teeth are razorsharp and can tear apart flesh. Balaurs like jungle areas, with much vegetation and trees. The behavior of them has been described by keepers as leopard like, carrying their prey up to trees. Despite this, they live on the ground and ambush their prey. Their black colouration makes it ideal for hunting during night. Balaurs can see perfectely during night, like cats they have a membrane in their eye , allowing them to see better in the night. Balaurs mating season is during spring. The males compete with each other, by roaring each other and spread their feathers. They wont fight each other, as this can inflict terrible injuries. Balaur has shorter legs than average raptors and id built more muscular, allowing him to take down prey that is much bigger than itself, its twin blade claws make him a very dangerous hunter. Balaur females lay up to 5 eggs. Both parents care for the youngs for 8 months. Then the youngs leave their parents. Their red eyes and black colour are the reason for their name:"vampire" as it origins from romania like dracula and a keeper described the balaurs as: red eyed like a devil, a coat like the jacket of dracula and a verocity that cant be compared to any other animal. These agressive animals produce sounds that have been described, like bird and cat like. Balaurs are intelligent animals and learn quickly. A big problem for inGen was how to put them on display. They came up with a brilliant idea: They built a house, that is totally dark. During day, the house is totally dark so the balaurs are active. during night, the house is lightened, so that the balaurs sleep. This house is called the nighthouse. It is built for the 2013 park where 10 Balaurs are set to live. Every jeep that mkes tours through the park is equipped with a nightvision gadget, so visitors can see the Balaurs. In freedom , Balaurs live on site E in the jungle areas and a small population is also present on site C.
