Sciurumimus albersdoerferi by Teratophoneus Sciurumimus albersdoerferi by Teratophoneus
So I finally started drawing again after several days of just building model kits and so on. Now I do some more dinosaurs again. To get in again I started with sciurumimus who is also known as the kelheim theropod . It even comes from my country, germany :D
Sciurumimus is one of the best fossilized dinosaur specimens. It is a juvenile specimen of a probably megalosaurid theropod, so an adult was much much bigger than the found juvenile. The fossil had feathers, and the tail feathers were thick, making it appear like a squirrels tail, hence its name. My pics doesnt shows the type specimen, it is a little bit older one , the proportions are now more closer to an adults proportions.

This thing is cute. I love how its tail is bushy like a squirrel's. I have a lot of squirrels in the forest behind my backyard, and I can picture this in their place (or probably some dinosaur like Anchiornis that's more adapted to climbing). Imagine if the adult was found, though, and we'd have a 20-30(?) foot "squirrel mimic!

Absolutely adorable. This one has GOT to be one of my new faves :)
Makes me wonder, though...how do we know we haven't already named an adult specimen? ;P
Also, I'm so jealous. Germany gets ALL the cool dinosaurs! Here in the state of Michigan, in the United States, we get nothing -_- Except Mastadons, but those aren't dinosaurs.

I dont think we have many big theropods in germany, espeacially from the megalosauroids. We have a yet unnamed genus, the so called monster von minden. It was once thought o be the bigges theropod of all, over 15 metres, but studies show it was more likely around 9 metres long. I wonderwhen it will be described.
So there isnt much room for confusion, as we have so far no really big theropod in germany that could be identical with sciurumimus
