Description

Backround: Developed to counter the new german aircraft, the Nieuport N 28 was a fast, and small aircraft with 2 machine guns. The plane was extremely narrow and small, making it a harder target to hit. It had a rotary engine and was easy to fly. It was thought to include it in the french air force as a replacement for older fighters like the spad VII but as the new spad 13 came out, it was quickly rejected as the spad was thought to be superior, so the n 28 never made it in the french air force. However, the plane found other users: The american airforce which had by then went into war hadnt any planes and so the ca 300 Nieport n 28 became the first plane that the american expeditionary force ever flew. The plane was easy to handle , and the pilots loved it immeadiately. Many aces flew the Nieuport N 28 including the famous Eddie Rickenbakker who´s machine you see here.
The model:
Firts I have to say that this little aircraft is my best biplane so far . This time the paintjob looks amazing, i love the outcoming. At first I didnt even want to buy it, as I just overlooked it, in fact I had never heard much about the N 28 and I was focused more on the spad 13 and sopwith camel I saw in the store. Unfortunately, I only had 4€ left and the camel cost 5€ and for the spad I hadnt the colours, so I bought the nieuport . Now I am glad to have it in my collection
Detail:Very good, we again have no cockpit detail but a pilot figure and a beautiful surface structure , ou can really feel the structure .
****
Fitting: its very small and therefore very easy to built and the fitting is perfect
*****
Functions: The prop is movable, what do you want more?
*****
Decals: For such a small aircraft we have quite many and big ones: a big number "12" on the wing and a kind of "poster"on the left upper and lower wing which I like a lot, makes the plane even more colourful :D
*****
Extrapoints: A lovable small aircraft with great decals and a beautiful finish, easy to built and no fitting problems
*****
Fazit: A small and perfect aircraft model kit , the detail in the cockpit is not very good but the rest pretty much overshadows that small flaw. It is a plane that can be built by a beginner and it is very small,it takes not much space if you wanna display it. Nevertheless the interesting multicolour camouflage scheme make it an eyecatcher.

I bought one of these today; went in and bought the Spad VIII, then went back a few hours later for the N28!

You've done a really good job on this; I agree that these Revell 'pocket money' models are a bit basic to begin with but that makes them easier to build well. Plus it encourages a degree of alteration for the novice; it's mentally 'easier' to alter a £3 kit than to work up the courage to do the same to a £30 one. I'm just trying to figure out how I'm going to rig mine (where I can tie off the crossbraces, and whether I need to drill holes through the fuselage...)... something I'd be very reluctant to do to a more expensive kit.
